A variety of treatments exist to get rid of forehead wrinkles. Surgical options such as forehead lift (also called brow lift) include the trichophytic hairline lift and the endoscopic hairline lift. Nonsurgical options such as Botox and Dysport can be effective as well. If you’re considering treatment for forehead wrinkles, Dr. Jose Barrera, a triple board-certified facial plastic surgeon with years of experience in the field, can help.
Choosing the right treatment depends on your specific needs. Read on to explore Dr. Barrera’s recommendations for the treatment of forehead wrinkles
What Causes Wrinkles?
Wrinkles are caused by the contraction of facial muscles. As the muscles surrounding our eyebrows contract and tighten, wrinkles form.
Surgical Treatment Options
The trichophytic hairline lift is an effective method for treating forehead wrinkles. This process involves creating an incision directly in the hairline (hiding it from view). Skin is excised from the forehead. The surgeon lifts the brow, smoothens the forehead and does not move the hairline.
During an endoscopic brow lift, small incisions are made and an endoscope (a slender, lighted camera) is inserted under the skin to guide the
procedure. The brow tissue is gently released and lifted, and forehead wrinkles are smoothened.
The trichophytic hairline lift is long-lasting and hides the scars inside the hairline. If you have experienced balding, the trichophytic lift may not be ideal. The endoscopic approach typically has a faster recovery time with minimal scarring.
Nonsurgical Options
Botox and Dysport injections are non-invasive treatments for forehead wrinkles. Botox and Dysport treat
wrinkles by blocking nerve signals that cause the skin of the forehead to contract. They are also
commonly used to minimize frown lines between the eyebrows.
Laser skin resurfacing is effective at treating static wrinkles in the skin (i.e., wrinkles not caused by repeated facial movements). In this process, lasers remove the outer layer of damaged, wrinkled
skin and stimulate the production of collagen for smoother, softer skin.
What’s the Best Treatment Option?
Choosing the best treatment for forehead wrinkles isn’t easy. If you’re looking for a fast, temporary solution, Botox and Dysport injections may be right for you. On the other hand, surgical options like the trichophytic and endoscopic lifts are more permanent solutions to forehead wrinkles.
