Dermal filler options for men in san Antonio
Men are seeking customized options for facial volumization more today than ever. Dermal fillers may be the answer for men with deep tear troughs which cause the tired look. A small amount of Restylane® may be the answer for improving the deep tear trough. Chin augmentation using either Restylane or Radiesse® can help define the chin or jawline in men without the need to undergo surgery. Improvement in the melolabial fold and cheek can also be made by using Restylane Defyne® or Sculptra® for full-face volumization. If sunken temples or cheeks are a problem, Restylane Lyft or Radiesse can improve these concave areas and give the patient a modest lift to the face. Bellafill can be used to diminish acne scarring.
There are dermal fillers that are more supportive for men. Trust your face to facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jose Barrera and visit us at our Modern Male Aesthetic MedSpa today!

What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid (also referred to as “HA”) is a natural substance (complex sugar) found in all living organisms. It hydrates the skin by holding in water, and acts as a cushion and lubricant to reduce damage to the skin. These properties make it a popular lip filler and can also add volume beneath the eyes as an under eye filler. HA is found in connective tissue throughout the body, including the dermis of the skin. Many dermal fillers are hyaluronic acids, including Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, Voluma, and Belotero.
To maintain its presence in the tissue, the HA is cross-linked by various techniques. It is an important component of youthful, supple, and elastic skin, and helps to maintain skin volume. As we age, our skin loses HA, contributing to the formation of wrinkles. The incidence of complications with HA is low, and the treatment of complications is relatively straightforward with the use of hyaluronidase. In many ways, HAs are the ideal filler.
Dermal fillers add volume to help restore youthful contours, so you’ll see results immediately following your treatment. They can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. These include the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines), the area just below the nose and above the upper lip, the corners of the mouth, and “marionette lines.” Marionette lines are the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline. Dr. Barrera provides dermal fillers at his San Antonio facial plastic surgery practice.

Dermal fillers are a wonderful and painless way to achieve maximum cosmetic results with minimum recovery time. In general, we use fillers to replace volume, which then helps to restore a natural, rested look. Unfortunately, we associate a sunken, gaunt look with age and disease, whereas we are all attracted to the youthful fullness of a face that has retained its curves and a supple appearance.
Everyone’s skin ages differently and JUVÉDERM® XC may be used to rejuvenate multiple problem areas.* From smile lines to vertical lip lines, you can smooth away unwanted wrinkles and restore natural contours.
Sculptra was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 3, 2004 as the first synthetic injectable. Dr. Jose Barrera, MD trained at Stanford University where he became a certified Sculptra injector in 2006. A board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Barrera has extensive experience injecting Sculptra San Antonio. Sculptra® Aesthetic is intended for use in people with healthy immune systems as one-time treatment regimen of up to 4 injection sessions that are scheduled about 3 weeks apart for correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles. Facial wasting and fat lipoatrophy has been described in many conditions including HIV, facial deformities resulting from tumor resection, and athletes who have lost much of their facial fat from training and overexertion. Fat wasting may be severe and distressing for patients who are otherwise stable.
The face shows progressive loss of orbital, buccal, parotid, and preauricular fat. Eyes appear prominent and hollow. Progressive orbital lipoatrophy causes a flattening and lengthening of the lower eyelids, leading to increased scleral show. Cheeks appear sunken with loss of the preauricular and buccal fat pads. As severity progresses, skeletal and muscle visibility becomes prominent features. Often, the nasolabial folds flatten and, along with atrophy of the cheeks, gives prominence to the perioral region.
BELOTERO BALANCE® is an HA derived dermal filler used to treat fine lines and improve facial contours. It is best used to soften lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth for smooth and natural.
Synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is a soft-tissue filler for use in facial aesthetics. This product may offer many of the desirable properties of a facial filler. Radiesse is a sterile latex-free nonpyrogenic, semisolid, cohesive subdermal, injectable implant, the principal component of which is synthetic CaHA. Different facial regions can be injected with CaHA to ameliorate or enhance some facial features: glabellar lines, cheeks, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, nose, lips, marionette lines, oral commissures, chin, and other areas. Although conventional aesthetic rhinoplasty remains the treatment of choice for major nasal deformities, injectable facial fillers may provide an attractive alternative in minor defects.
Restylane and Restylane-L are the only FDA-approved products for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years, and are uniquely formulated to give your lips fullness and definition. Restylane Silk is now available as a lip filler to provide volume for thin lips in San Antonio. Newer Fillers include Restylane Refyne and Defyne improve laugh lines naturally.
What makes Lyft different than Restylane is the average size of the particles and the depth of injection, which means it’s a good choice for more severe facial wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin.
